Answers
- We have small children and may need to return to the chalet at different times to the rest of the group, how flexible with the in resort chauffeur service are you ?
- We will be able to give you a mobile number and will try our best to accommodate your needs and as the chalet is only a couple of minutes drive from the centre of Chatel then if someone is available we should be able to help out.
- Alternatively there is a
free bus service which runs from the centre to very near our chalet
too, this runs a few times an hour in the mornings and afternoons
and a little less often around the middle of the day.
The buses are very reliable and we found that if you know the times they are simple way to get around. - The walk between the chalet and the village centre is around 10 minutes and is quite pleasant along a gently sloping quiet road.
- How reliable is the snow record in Chatel ?
- The positioning of Chatel
between Mont Blanc (the highest mountain in Western Europe) and Lake
Geneva create an environment which tends to produce significant and
reliable snow falls.
See our Portes du Soleil section with the historic snow fall table. - What childcare options are available in your chatel ?
- Chatel is a very family
friendly resort with a variety of options to suit your individual
childcare requirements.
Please read our childcare section and feel free to contact us to discuss your specific needs. - Why do you operate a Sunday changeover day ?
- We've found this has a number of benefits over a Saturday changeover, namely cost and the time it takes for our clients traveling.
- Sunday flights are usually cheaper than Saturday flights. Plus you'll have an easier transfer because the airport will be less busy allowing you to exit customs quicker, then the drive to Chatel will be quicker because of the quieter Sunday roads, France doesn't do Sunday opening !
- Also your last day on the slopes will be a Saturday which can be quieter due to being the usual changeover day.
- Is there much off-piste skiing ?
- There is masses of easily accessible off-piste to be enjoyed in
Chatel and all over the Portes
du Soleil.
One of my favourites is called the Donkeys, served by the Cornebois 6 man fast lift its off-piste from the top to the bottom with loads of interesting features and variety of routes to choose. - How good is the chairlift network ?
- The Portes du Soleil invest heavily in upgrading the lift system every summer. Which means loads of new high speed chairs, especially around Chatel's Pre la Joux area and highest slopes in Avoriaz.
- Last year the slow chair between Les Lindarets and Plaine Dranse which was always a bottle neck when heading back to Chatel was replaced with a fast 6 man chair. This made a massive difference, no more queues and a fast lift when your heading home in the cold can be very welcome !
- Can you ski back to the chalet ?
- There is no direct ski access to the chalet, but...
The Barbossine chair lift is only a hundred meters above the chalet, this lift takes you directly into the Super Chatel ski area.
When the snow is good it is possible to ski to the bottom of this lift - if you don't mind a little off-piste route finding. From there if cross over the road the field below leads directly to the back of our chalet.
